ABOUT WELLSPRING CANINE MASSAGE
With passion for dogs, and their well-being
I'm Douglas Moss, a Certified Small Animal Massage Therapist and owner of WellSpring Canine Massage, LLC. I was lucky enough to experience the unconditional love and support of my two English Bulldogs (Tango and Bam-Bam). Their friendship and loyalty were remarkable, and the inspiration they filled me with truly has enriched my life. As dog owners, we all have special memories of our canine companions and recognize how they dramatically enhance our lives.
How It All Began
During Tango's senior years he tore the ACL in his knees. That reminded me of when I competed in Martial Arts and the benefits I received from weekly massage. Why couldn't some of the benefits I received (increased range in motion, shorter recovery time, increased tissue flexibility, and reduction of pain/swelling) also benefit Tango. Determined to provide him with as much comfort as possible, I began massage with Tango. Not only did he enjoy the massage, he asked for it and soon the results followed. Both I and my veterinarian saw the improvements in Tango's vitality, strength and flexibility. Due to the success of that experience, I left the commercial Real Estate industry knowing that with professional clinical training I could make a significant difference in helping animals reach their full life potential and provide quality comfort along the way.
I enrolled in the acclaimed school, Bancroft University in Worcester, MA. Many consider it the strictist school of small animal massage therapy in the country. Bancroft has been teaching human massage since 1950 and in 2003 began their Small Animal Massage Program. During the 8-10 month program, we became proficient in anatomy, physiology, behavior and became certified in Canine CPR. We learned the full-body Bancroft Method. It is a completely unique routine. It was derived by a combination of veterinarians, vet technicians, human and canine physical therapists and liscensed massage therapists. Our method combines combinations of techniques including Swedish, Shiatsu, myofascial, accupressure and range of motion. We received extensive hands-on experience working on both humans and canines and also worked with both human and canine practitioners. I interned at pet day care and pet hotel facilities as well in a veterinary office and animal rescue facilities, often working with distressed animals.
All for the Love of your Dog
Our dogs play an important role in our life and the most fulfilling friendships are those that stand the test of time. Dogs are loving family members and trusted companions and as they grow with us and become seniors, our bond with them grows even deeper. Considering how dogs enrich our lives, we have the responsibility and trust of our canine companions to ensure their years and especially their senior years are as enriching and fulfilling as their preceding years have been and more.
Your dog gives you his unconditional love and affection and you have the opportunity to do the same for your canine companion. I and many others have witnessed first-hand how therapeutic massage can help increase a dog's quality of life and I'm excited at the opportunity to provide the same benefits to your canine companion.
